1950s Silk Sloat Suit

Truly beautiful three piece suit..........

We are so pleased to have this fantastic couture set to offer. It really is so unique. The suit is made up of a top, skirt and short sleeved jacket, all in a luxurious silk satin.

The cream cropped jacket has capped sleeves and a cross over front.This is secured with two fantastic metal and rhinestone buttons, and additional hook and eye fastenings. There are double feature darts to the bust and back of the jacket. The finishing is very good.

The top is in black silk satin with a shaped v neck to the front and deeper v to the back. The edges of the neckline are finished beautifully and reinforced to the front. Again the bodice features lovely double darts to the bust and to the back. The top flairs glamorously from the natural waist. There is a side zip opening on the top.

The skirt is again a black silk satin with nipped waist and attached waist band which is fastened to the back with hook and eyes. The skirt flairs elegantly from the waist with open pleats  falling from lovely little bows, which are on both the front and back of the dress, to the top and bottom of the skirt. The skirt is unlined and has a perfectly finished reinforced hem.

Who were Sloat ?

Sloat and co was founded by Stella Sloat and her brothers in 1952, taking over from their fathers skirt business which dated back to 1908 when it sold and made petticoats. After world war two the company was keen on making couture styled seperates, extending into sportswear later in the decade.  Sloat skirts became so famous they were simply known as 'Sloats'. A sloat skirt was known for fine fabrics such as the silk satin in this piece and also for its couture like fit. Sloats and co were a big favourite of Jackie Kennedy, who amassed a large collection of Sloat skirts.
